What is the WCRPG?

The Edge of Chaos: Wing Commander RPG (WCRPG) is an online role-playing game loosely based on the Wing Commander universe created by Origin Systems Inc. It is a text-based RPG that provides two avenues of game-play: real-time over IRC and play-by-post through the use of message board forums.

Players in the WCRPG primarily take on the role of fighter pilots onboard a spacecraft carrier as they fight against the forces that threaten the Alliance of Baran and Vortath Systems (ABVS), a new faction created by Humans, Kilrathi, and Varni in response to heinous acts committed by the now-corrupt Terran Confederation.

During IRC sessions, players interact with each other in real-time and take part in turn-based missions that affect the storyline, similar to conventional table-top RPGs. In between sessions, players can use the forums to post in-character (IC) logs and stories that help to provide more insight into their characters and their situations.

The Edge of Chaos

The Edge of Chaos (TEOC) has been the WCRPG's flagship RPG since 1996. IRC sessions take place weekly on Saturday nights at 9:00pm EST (GMT-05:00). Currently, this RPG is set in the year 2677 (several years after the events of WC4) and follows the adventures of the crew of the ABVS Tara'Kaga, a heavily modified dreadnaught stationed in the Vortath Sector.

While TEOC has its roots in the WC universe and still shares many common elements, it has incorporated original ideas and aspects from the fantasy genre to create a unique role-playing environment. Even though these changes may turn off some WC fans who like to keep things very close to the computer games and canon material, we hope that we're able to appeal to a wider audience and introduce them to the world of Wing Commander by providing them with a fun and entertaining gaming experience that they won't find anywhere else.
