Game Play

The WCRPG simulations are primarily played out in two ways:

  • Interactive role-playing sessions over Internet Relay Chat (IRC)
  • Play-by-post role-playing

Interactive IRC Role-playing Sessions

WCRPG sessions that take place on IRC consist of five (5) segments:

Pre-Mission Role-playing

This is a free-form role-playing segment where players can interact with others before a mission. Essentially, players can do what they want within reason and any guidelines that the session host has put forth. This segment also allows session hosts to prepare the upcoming mission.

Briefings

This segment provides pilots with information about their mission objectives and establishes what wing they will be flying on and what fighter they will be in. Pilots will also be able to ask questions about their mission and get clarification from their commanding officers.

Combat

In this segment, pilots actually "fly" their mission. Using a dice roller script and the Host Combat Program (HCP), players take turn acting out their actions and rolling for the results of their attacks.

Debriefing

Once a mission is over, pilots reassemble for debriefing. This is where commanding officers provide pilots with feedback of their performance during the mission and provides information about the results or effects that their mission has had.

Post-Mission Role-playing

This segment is another free-form role-playing segment. It is here where the characters react to the mission and events that have just transpired.

Some IRC sessions may be deemed as "RP Only" sessions where there is no briefing, combat, or debriefing segments. In this case, players are given the time for more free-form role-playing. These sessions often occur at the end and very beginning of a campaign.

Play-By-Post Role-Playing

Since role-playing sessions only occur once a week for each ship, a second method of role-playing is used to further events and plots during a campaign.

Posting messages on the WCRPG Message Boards

The in-character message boards on wcrpg.com are used by players to role-play in between sessions. Players post a variety of messages that include (but are not limited to) personal logs and emails to other characters. Sometimes, there will be posts such as news bulletins that will provide information on events that happen in the WCRPG universe.
